Student Organizations & Clubs

1. BETA CLUB: The Beta Club is a national organization built on the ideals of honesty, service, leadership, and academic achievement among high school students. Students who have attained a 3.5 grade point average are eligible for membership. Students who do not maintain their grade point average as outlined in the constitution will be suspended from membership until the grade point is raised.

2. NATIONAL FRENCH HONORARY: The Societe Honoraire de Francais is a national organization that recognizes outstanding scholastic achievement in French and encourages student interest in the study of the language. Eligibility is based on enrollment in an advanced course, second semester enrollment in a level II course or higher; a grade of at least 90% in the previous semester's course; a 90% or better average in all French courses taken; and at least an 80% grade average in all courses taken other than French. Members plan and participate in a program of activities.

3. NATIONAL SPANISH HONORARY: The Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica provides recognition of high achievement in Spanish, encourages Spanish students to excel, and promotes interest in Hispanic culture. To be a member, students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and a 3.3 in their 3rd semester of Spanish study and thereafter. A one-time membership fee of $5.00 is due before the spring initiation.

4. GERMAN KLUB: The Conway High School German Klub is open to any CHS student currently enrolled in the German course or any student who has successfully completed two (2) years of German and would like to continue German-related activities. All of the extracurricular activities of the German classes are carried out through club membership. The members participate in trips to the Annual Oktoberfest in Hot Springs, the German candy sale, theme parties (Christmas, Grillfest) throughout the year, Filmabende in which members watch movies in German, and service projects in the community. Every three (3) years, members are also eligible to participate in a three-week study tour to Quakenbrueck, Germany, Conway's sister city, every three (3) years.

5. SPANISH CLUB: The Spanish Club is open to students currently enrolled in any level Spanish and to native Spanish speakers. Club activities will enhance the cultural experiences students are having in the classroom.

6. STUDENT CONGRESS: The Student Congress is an organization that represents the entire student body. It provides general assemblies and informs the student body of all activities of the school. Leadership, scholarship, and service are qualities that members of the Student Congress should possess.

7. MODEL UNITED NATIONS: Model United Nations is an organization in which students learn about the function of the U. N. and attend state Model U.N.

8. HISTORY CLUB: History Club is pen to students who have a love of history and includes several service projects.

9. QUIZ BOWL: Quizbowl is a nationally competitive academic team.

10. F.C.C.L.A: F.C.C.L.A is a national organization of girls and boys studying family and consumer science in junior and senior high school. The objective is to help improve personal, family, and community living. Activities focus on individual growth, the family, education, development of occupational competencies, preparation for marriage and careers, and the youth's role in society and the world. As a chapter of the national organization, the school organization elects its own officers appoints committees, and plans and carries out its program of work.

11. F.F.A.: Future Farmers of America is a national youth organization for students enrolled in agriculture education and 23 horticulture courses. The members participate in parliamentary procedure, public speaking, sub-area and district judging contests, chapter contests, chapter safety contests, Building Our American Communities Project, National, State, and Local Proficiency Awards, State and County Fairs, State and National F.F.A. Convention, Optimist Christmas Tree Sale, Parent and Member Banquet.

15. F.B.L.A.: The Future Business Leaders of America is a national organization designed to encourage students in the business field. Its purpose is to help develop self-confidence and strong business leadership. F.B.L.A. provides many opportunities for students. It serves as an effective means of bringing students together to deal with vocational preparation, national problems, improvement, and worthwhile relationships with local, state, and national groups interested in the welfare of youth.

16. QUILL AND SCROLL: The Quill and Scroll is a national honor society for journalism students. Any student who has taken Journalism I, photography, or is a member of the Literary Magazine staff is eligible to become a member if he/she has at least a 3.0 grade point average. The organization meets monthly. Membership dues are $10.00 per year. Jeani Johnson publication adviser is sponsor.

17. FORENSICS CLUB: The Forensics Club is an organization where students participate in tournament competition on an extra curricular basis. Students practice and perform in various areas of speech delivery such as debate, poetry, prose, acting, extemporaneous speaking and original oratory. The club attends various tournaments in the state.

18. LIBRARY CLUB: The Library Club is the organization for student librarians. Members are chosen by the library media specialist. Student librarians provide assistance to faculty and students in the library media center and take responsibility in library procedures. The club is affiliated with the Arkansas Student Librarians' Association.

19. BAND: The CHS Band works toward the presentation of music to the greatest possible number of students and specialized training of those who are talented and have a particular interest in music. The band strives to present the highest type of music, both classical and contemporary, for the training of its members and the enjoyment of its audiences. The band performs at all home football games and usually makes two or three trips to out of town games. The band also enters one or two marching contests each year as well as region and state concert contests and solo-ensemble contests. It is well represented in the All-Region and All-State Bands each year. The band presents at least three (3) public concerts per year, and its members provide entertainment for various club meetings and other activities. The CHS Band meets daily during a regular class period with marching rehearsals and sectionals before and after school whenever necessary.

20. STAGE BAND: The Stage Band is made up of select members from the Concert Band. The objective of this group is to expand the music curriculum into the fields of jazz, rock, and other popular forms of music. Activities include performing at band concerts, local club activities, area high schools, and regional jazz festivals.

21. ORCHESTRA: Orchestra is offered to any student interested in playing orchestral string instruments. The orchestra presents four (4) public concerts each year as well as providing entertainment for civic clubs and organizations. The orchestra students will participate in region and state festivals and events throughout the year.

22. CHOIR: The CHS Choral Department includes a Concert Choir consisting of a Concert Choir and Girls Ensemble. The choral group presents public concerts and school assembly programs during the year and performs at regional and state festivals. Choir members participate on an individual basis in the All-Region and All-State choirs each year. The choral program offers students interested in vocal music a variety of singing experiences.

23. CHAMBER SINGERS (Madrigals): The Chamber Singers is a select group of mixed voices which performs a wide variety of choral music with special emphasis on early madrigals up to and including contemporary chamber type music. Membership is limited to fourteen to eighteen singers who audition. A prerequisite is membership in the Concert Choir. The Conway High School Chamber singers meet before and after school as necessary.

24. CHEERLEADERS: School spirit is promoted at CHS by cheerleaders. They are chosen by out-of-town judges at tryouts in the spring. The squad is governed by a constitution approved by the administration, the sponsors, and the squad members themselves.

25. DANCE SQUAD: Ninth grade has one (1) dance squad with tryouts from both middle schools and cheers at all home 9th grade games. A JV dance squad is made up of 10th graders and will cheer at junior varsity games. 24 Participants are chosen by judges at tryouts in the spring (not held in conjunction with cheerleading tryouts) and are governed by a constitution approved by the school administration, the sponsors, and the squads themselves.

26. DRAMA CLUB: Drama Club is designed to promote the appreciation of and participation in all areas of theatre arts. Membership is open to all members of CHS.

27. ART CLUB: This organization is affiliated with the Arkansas Young Artist Association. Its purpose is to provide opportunity for study and practice of drawing, painting, crafts, and the appreciation of the arts. Art Club provides opportunities for students to share creative ability with each other and to exhibit creations. CHS students are eligible for membership if they are currently enrolled in an art class or have completed one year of high school art.

28. KNITTING & CRAFT CLUB: Students will be learning basic skills of knitting, crocheting, cross stitch, etc. Small projects in which patterns are provided will be assigned to complete. It reinforces reading, understanding and following directions while developing coordination and creative skills. If one likes working with his/her hands and being creative, this club is for him /her.

29. STUDENT HUMANE SOCIETY: This organization promotes animal awareness and works in conjunction with the local Humane Society.

30. K.F.C. - KINGDOM FOR CHRIST: K.F.C. is open to anyone interested in praying together.

31. E.Y.E. WEEKLY FOCUS GROUP: The group is about positive peer interaction and meets weekly at lunch.

32. LIBRARY DISCOVERY CLUB: This organization will promote and support the library media center as the hub of the school environment. To assist the Library Media Specialist and Library Assistant by providing opinions and advice about the library services and resources. To discover and utilize personal skills and talents for a common good. To learn, share, and develop new skills while employing fundamental principles and techniques of club participation.

33. JROTC:

CONWAY HIGH SCHOOL INTRAMURAL ACTIVITIES Intramurals at CHS-East are conducted during each lunch period. All students are eligible to participate. Having good sportsmanship, positive attitude, and fun are the goals of the program. All students at CHS-West are eligible to participate in the intramural program. However, students already participating in varsity sports, such as football, basketball, and track shall not be eligible to participate in that particular intramural sport. Teams will be made up from members of organized clubs, physical education classes, and independent teams.

RENAISSANCE STUDENT INCENTIVE PROJECT
The Renaissance Student Incentive Project recognizes, motivates, and rewards academic achievement of students in Conway High School. Students will have the opportunity to be rewarded with certain on and off campus privileges, business discounts, freebies, and special activities based on academic achievement and willingness to improve. The different aspects of Renaissance are a Platinum Card, Gold Card, Silver Card, and High Five Award.

1. PLATINUM: A Platinum Card is earned by students who meet the following criteria each nine weeks:
a 4.0 GPA
b. all A's or no less than a B in an AP class
c. no suspensions
d. member of any school club or activity

2. GOLD CARD: A Gold Card is earned by a student who meets the following criteria each nine weeks:
a. all A's and B's with a GPA of 3.50 to 3.99
b. no suspensions
c. a member of a school club of activity.

3. SILVER CARD: A Silver Card is earned by a student who meets the following criteria each nine weeks:
a. 3.0 to 3.49 GPA

4. BRONZE CARD:  A Bronze Card is earned by a student who increases their GPA by .5  -- Student's 9 weeks grade point average improves +.5 from the previous 9 weeks. (Example: from a 2.0 to a 2.5)
b. no suspensions
c. no failures (F's)
d. a member of a school club of activity.
